Obtained his undergraduate, medical education and Neurosurgical training at the University of British Columbia. Following completion he went on to complete a two year fellowship in Neuro-oncology and Skull base surgery at the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Institute in Houston Texas. Dr. Hentschel then returned to Canada and worked at the University of Saskatchewan before returning to Victoria to become the Head of Neurosurgery at Island Health. Over his first 9 years in Victoria he was responsible for the recruitment and hiring of four of our current surgeons and introducing new advanced technology and procedures to Neurosurgery in Island Health. He currently focuses practice on Neuro-oncology, Skull-base surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery.
