FELLOWSHIP
Clinical Fellowships
There are two Fellowship positions available in Spinal and General Neurosurgery commencing July of every year. The Fellowship will allow exposure to many aspects of complex spine surgery including minimally invasive techniques for degenerative disorders, trauma, oncology and adult spinal deformities.
The Fellow will have ongoing involvement in general neurosurgery including management of neuro-oncology and cerebrovascular patients.
The Fellow will participate in clinical, research, and educational activities. On-call activities are negotiable depending upon level of training. The Fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis and is intended to support neurosurgeons early in their careers. The VINF Fellowship provides compensation competitive with Locum physicians.
The Fellow must be eligible to obtain a full neurosurgery license in the Province of British Columbia
Preference will be given to graduates of Canadian neurosurgery training programs.
Clinical Fellowship Application
Position Title: Clinical Fellow
Responsibilities of the position are to participate in surgery; perform research; assist in on-call clinical responsibilities, as necessary; and complete monthly MSP billings.
Surgical

Most aspects of neurosurgery

Assisting in the operating room 3-5days/wk on 6 month assignments

Triage clinic 1 to 1.5 days/wk
Research
-
0.5 to 1 full day of research work/wk

Two original research articles; or
-
One original research article and one review
-
Funding to attend one annual meeting of the Canadian Spine Society or the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation

It may be possible to attend another professional conference if the Fellow presents original research and the Fellowship Director considers it is in the best interests of the Fellowship
On Call
-
To be discussed with applicant

The Fellow is expected to assist with “on-call” clinical responsibilities, as needed
Administrative

Complete clinical documentation to support MSP billings

Remit MSP billings in a timely, regular fashion
